Sustainable fashion, or the opposite of fast fashion, is a philosophy of design, sustainability trend and, above all, social responsibility. Both design, production and distribution in the clothing industry, based on the idea of sustainable fashion, take place for the sake of the natural environment and using planet-friendly techniques. This fashion is gaining crowds of supporters from year to year. In reference to the prevailing trend, it is worth noting that in our small local tailoring workshops, it is also worth taking care of sustainable production, taking care of every detail. In this article, we would like to inspire you to use the remnants of materials. We present 4 ideas on how to make good use of the remnants of materials.
For home
There will always be some argument to beautify our apartment. Thanks to the remnants of materials, we can sew, for example, unique bedspreads, pillowcases, tablecloths or napkins. Among the fabrics that are suitable for sewing home accessories, we can mention above all: wool, cotton and cashmere, but linen, silk and polyester will also work. A great idea to use the remains of cotton or linen materials are food bags and cloths and towels. Another example is the use of leftover materials to sew a beautician or shopping bag.
For yourself
The remnants of silk materials are perfect for sewing blindfolds, turbans or hair bands that will protect your hair during sleep and make your hair in better condition.
For a child
From the remnants of materials, you can create mascots, blankets or mats for babies. They are also great for sewing hats for children. Fashionable this season are bucket hats that will shield the baby's head from the sun. Larger fragments of material can also be used to sew clothes for a child.
For loved ones
If you have unique leftovers, for example, patterned silk, give your loved ones a scarf or scarf. For shawls and scarves, silk or polyester will be perfect.
Certainly, as experienced seamstresses, you will find more creative ideas for using leftover materials. The only thing that limits us is our imagination.
In the topic of sustainable fashion, it is also worth mentioning upcycling. Upcycling was the biggest trend at the spring-summer 2021 shows. Even large fashion houses more and more often and willingly reach for previously used materials, from which they sew completely new clothes.
